The University of Alabama's

12th Annual

Model United Nations Conference

FEBRUARY 14-16, 2020

What is Alabama Model United Nations?

For the past decade, the Alabama International Relations Club (AIRC) has hosted ALMUN, a leading Model United Nations conference for high school students from across the Southeast. Now in its 12th year, ALMUN continually provides an exceptional opportunity for student delegates to hone their debate skills while challenging them to think broadly and critically about international issues in order to become conscientious global citizens. Further, this conference offers members of AIRC and undergraduate students from across campus an opportunity to develop their own leadership skills and awareness of global issues while planning and staffing the conference.

Welcome to ALMUN!

Dear Delegates, Parents, and Sponsors,

Welcome to ALMUN XII! My name is Clayton Lawing and I am thrilled to introduce myself as the Secretary-General of the 12th annual Alabama Model United Nations Conference. This year’s Secretariat has already begun preparations to welcome you to The University of Alabama and we are proud to announce that this year’s conference will take place February 14th to 16th, 2020. We hope to offer a unique and engaging conference experience with over ten years of expertise and we are completely committed to making this year’s conference an incredible event for all.

ALMUN offers a rich array of substantive debate from Crisis, General Assemblies, Specialized Agencies, and Press Corps committees over a three-day period. Each of our substantive organs offers committees of varying size, type, and skill level. Whether debating geopolitical crises in General Assemblies, writing directives as a fantasy character in one of our Crisis Committees, immersing yourself as a government agency in a Specialized Agency, or reporting on committee debate and proceedings with our Press Corps, we hope to offer all students a stimulating experience. In addition to our committees, we will also be supplementing the delegate and sponsor activities with additional delegate resources and a memorable weekend spent on the University of Alabama’s campus.

ALMUN holds a special place in my heart, as I have been attending or staffing ALMUN ever since ALMUN V back in 2013. Model United Nations has been one of the most crucial aspects of my development as a leader and a global citizen. It is my hope that all participants will fall as in love with ALMUN as I have.

Please be sure to follow our conference planning process by following us on Instagram. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me. I hope to see you for a weekend of debate, diplomacy, and action!
