International Court of Justice

Case Concerning the Military and Paramilitary Activities in and Against Nicaragua

(Nicaragua v. The United States of America)

In 1986 the International Court of Justice decided that the U.S. had violated international law in their intervention in Nicaraguan affairs with the support of the Contras rebellion against the Sandinistas. This committee will try this case through debate on topics such as national sovereignty and parliamentary obligation. The simulation of this case will allow delegates to exercise their knowledge of international law, consider the intricacies of international relations, and increase their understanding of the history of Central America.
