United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization

Hello delegates! Welcome to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Here in UNESCO, we focus on providing world peace through education, culture, and science. UNESCO was founded in 1945 to promote international peace and reconstruction after World War II. The ultimate goal of UNESCO is to harness education, science, and culture to promote understanding and respect across the globe. In this committee, we will focus on preservation and reconstruction of educational and culture during and after times of crisis. Journalists play a crucial role in communicating international issues and culture. The safety of journalists in times of violent extremism and conflict is paramount to promoting education and understanding. The delegates should develop policy protocols to protect journalists’ integrity and physical welfare in conflict. Violent extremism also leads to the destabilization of educational and cultural institutions. UNESCO aims to protect these institutions during violence as well as developing them after conflict. In doing so, the delegates work to guard the cultural and educational protections which ameliorate the consequences of violent conflict.
