Keynote speaker:

Dr. Mark Conversino, Dean of the Air War College

          Dr. Mark Conversino joined the faculty of the Air War College following his retirement from active duty with the Air Force.  After serving on the faculty and as Associate Dean, he became the school’s Dean of Faculty and Academic Affairs on 1 November 2008.  Dr. Conversino also served as the course director for the Warfighting course and has taught electives on airpower and courses on both Russia and Central Asia as part of the school’s Regional and Cultural Studies program.  He taught previously at the School of Advanced Airpower Studies and in the Department of History at the US Air Force Academy. While on active duty, Dr. Conversino held various aircraft maintenance assignments in the Strategic Air Command, Air Mobility Command and Air Combat Command throughout the US and Saudi Arabia, including command of the 93d Maintenance Squadron. Prior to joining the Air War College faculty, he served at the Defense Logistics Agency as a logistics plans officer and as Director of Staff for the agency’s Director.  He is the author of Fighting With The Soviets: The Failure of Operation Frantic, 1944-1945, University Press of Kansas, 1997, several chapters in edited works and numerous articles and reviews in scholarly and defense-related journals.  Dr. Conversino serves on the Board of Advisors for the Baltic Defence College in Tartu, Estonia and is on the editorial boards of several professional and scholarly journals.  He holds a B.A. from Eastern Kentucky University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Indiana University.
